Located on the Lower Level of The Randolph and Estelle Dorn Addition, the Carnegie Library, and the old Erie County Jail is an area dedicated to research, local history, genealogy, and group study.  This area also features the Adult Computer Lab with 22 computers. Each computer is connected to the internet and has MS Office software installed. Through the Library's website you can access many resources, including Ancestry Library Edition and Biography and Genealogy Master Index.

Reference Services houses the Library’s non-fiction collection, including biographies and back issues of more than 300 magazines, as well as Internet and general use computers. A service desk is staffed to assist patrons in the use of the collections.

In addition, three quiet reading areas are located near the north windows of the new addition, along with five private study rooms, one equipped with a typewriter and another with a low-vision reader/magnifier.
