Introduction

Expanded to more than three times its previous size, Children’s Services dedicates one third of the space to preschool-age children, including a Storytime Room/Baby Garden, a separate playroom, and a Short Circuits computer area.

The Baby Garden, provided with funds from a gene rous grant from the Mylander Foundation, builds the skill of playing for youngest children. Unstructured play allows children to learn about language and think symbolically, which helps them get started on the path to reading readiness. The Baby Garden also encourages parents and caregivers to take an active part in play with their children.

Another third of the space contains the book and video collection for grade school children and young adults, and the last third includes a Homework Center and Reference/Checkout Desk.
